Pretty Simple Privacy is a small, independent project built around a simple idea: privacy is not complicated, and it should not be. The tools exist. The knowledge is out there. What has been missing is a place that brings them together honestly, without jargon, without an agenda, and without trying to sell you anything.

We are based in Switzerland and run this site as a hobby — without funding, without advertising, and without investors. If you find it useful and want to support it, donations are welcome.

What We Do

We publish articles on digital privacy and surveillance, maintain a curated directory of privacy tools, and share resources from trusted voices in the privacy community. Everything is available in English and German.

How We Choose Tools

We list only tools that meet all four of the following criteria:

  • Open source or source-available
  • No advertising business model
  • No data selling or brokering
  • Personally tested by us

If a tool does not meet all four, it does not appear on the site. We are also precise in our language: source-available is not the same as open source, and we will say so.

Who This Is For

Anyone who wants to understand what is happening with their data online and take practical steps to protect it — without needing a technical background. Our primary audience is German-speaking Europe, but everything is published in both languages.
